ABOUT US ...

Bacchus Hill Winery's Cellar Door, opened for business on the 5th January 2006.

Our magnificent location has picture postcard views of the Brisbane Ranges, the Macedon Ranges, the tapestry of the local market gardens and orchards, as well as the Bacchus Marsh Valley.

Our extensive range of wines and moderate prices have been very well received by all. On some lines, we have all
but sold out.

Owner and Winemaker Bruno Tassone

The Winemaker's background

Our inaugural 2005 vintage consists of: Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Sangiovese and Pinot Noir-Merlot for the reds. In the whites, we have Lawsons' Patch Rosé, Chenin Blanc, Chenin Blanc (Demi-sec) Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling and Semillon. All made by the owner and winemaker Bruno Tassone.

Our grapes are handpicked from hand-pruned vines, grown on high level river terraces and gully alluvium within a belt of ancient Ordovician soil, making wines of great character and complexity. This year's vintage has begun particularly early and the quality and volume of the harvest so far is extremely encouraging.

In view of the good harvest, we hope to have a 2006 Pinot Noir, and a 2006 Merlot to add to our range.

This year we have also employed an assistant winemaker, Melanie Metz, and between the two winemakers, hopes are high that our exacting standards will not only be maintained but exceeded, and that consistently superior quality wines will be produced.

On the 18th March 2006, we participated in the Victorian Producers Market at the Melbourne Museum, together with other SDGA wineries. The feedback and interest in our distinctive label and logo was most encouraging, as was the public's genuine pleasure in sampling our extensive range of wines.

On the 3rd & 4th May we participated in the Federation Square, Sunbury & Macedon Ranges Wine Region Show, and were successful in obtaining a Bronze Medal for our Cabernet Sauvignon Late Harvest. We were particularly thrilled as this was our very first entry in a Wine Show.

Our 2005 Shiraz was recently awarded a Silver Medal at Ballarat Wine Show and a Bronze Medal at the Murrambateman Cool Climate Wine Show.
