Ricketty Bridge
Folk music brought us together but we soon found lots of other flavours, spices and stories bubbling underneath. We let our voices and fingers follow our hearts and now we are world travellers.

The Players
Matt Rees is the voice and guitarist with Ricketty Bridge. His roots are in Folk, Country and Rock’n’Roll, so you may find him playing bangolin and crooning in French. Matt has played with various bands and as a solo performer. Matt’s easy going style and unique interpretation puts him at the heart of Ricketty Bridge.
David Arblaster plays a variety of wind instruments, melodeon and piano accordion. He has played medieval madrigals and traditional old English melodies on recorders for many years. A desire to play a broader range of music (and to play an instrument he doesn’t have to blow into!) has lead to that pleasantly frustrating instrument, the melodeon.
These days, Henry Vyhnal just sticks to violin - sometimes masquerading as fiddle (Irish, American and Gypsy styles). In previous musical incarnations, Henry was a free jazz improviser, an orchestral and chamber musician, a country and western scratcher and a punk rocker. Occasionally the old personalities drop by….
Sam Thorpe is the newest member and his double bass playing has brought our sound together in ways we could not have imagined.
As percussionist and singer Mickey Lisieux is the femme fatale of the group, evoking the exuberant traditions of folk, Latin, Mid-eastern, gypsy, and Klezmer with her little world of musical instruments.

Fun for all the family!
CARNEVALE is one of the most exciting and most anticipated festival in Italy dating back to Roman Times.
Carnevale is the final festivity before the commencement of the 40 days of Lent, during which time Catholics, in earlier times, abstained from eating meat.
For the most part, in days gone by, eating meat was something of a luxury.
The Festival therefore, was used as an excuse to get one’s fill of meat- at least once a year!
“CARNEVALE” begins on the Epiphany (January 6th) and continues through to Shrove Tuesday.
Now in the Northern Hemisphere this period coincides with the middle of winter and an ideal time for those raising pigs to make their salamis, and smoked meat products to use throughout the year.
A great combination for a Festival - an availability of meat and an excuse to eat up before the Lenten fasting begins!
In the Southern Hemisphere, January of course is in the middle of Summer.
So does this mean we are going to miss out on the fun?? - NO!
We will have “Carnevale”
at BACCHUS HILL WINERY on Sunday 15th June 2008
We are most fortunate in our area to have ‘OLD STYLE ORGANIC”, of Myrniong,
a producer of
Organic Pork Smallgoods and Fresh Meats,
who loves our idea of CARNEVALE
Anthony and Tina are enthusiastically co-operating and collaborating with us to make this a most successful Festa.
Most organic smallgood products will be available for purchase and tasting (where appropriate).
There will be a suckling on the spit, a continental style sausage sizzle, a great array of smoked meats and of course our extremely popular Winter Meat Lover’s Pizza.
Musical Entertainment will be provided by the Marcese duo, who will entertain with folk songs and piano accordion music.
We will have it all for your enjoyment:-
Great Wine,
Great Food,
Good Cheer and Entertainment, the rest is up to YOU!

Sugarcane Collins
All the way from Cape York in the hot and humid
tropical far north of Australia, where the rainforest meets the reef
and where there are only two seasons, wet and dry, comes Andy "Sugarcane"
Collins. With fire, skill, passion & commitment
Sugarcane plays his acoustic guitars with a driving rhythmic swing a
nd sings powerfully with the big heart of a bluesman. Inspired by the
slashing delta blues of Charley Patton & Son House, the joyous ragtime
guitar of Blind Blake and the powerful songster traditions of
Leadbelly, his songs are filled with deep emotional content and like
the best of the early bluesmen, Collins is an exceptional
storyteller. » read more |
