Pugsley BuzzardGravel voiced singer and piano player, Pugsley Buzzard performs both solo and with his band drawing from a rich vein of piano based music from Harlem Stride, New Orleans Funk, Jazz, Barrelhouse Blues, Boogie Woogie to Modern Improvisation.
Pugsley's sound has been compared to Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Tom Waits and Captain Beefheart.
And his piano stylings draw on influences as diverse as Thelonious Monk, Fats Waller, Chico Marx and Professor Longhair.
Pugsley is an engaging performer, with extensive experience performing in pubs, jazz clubs, theaters and at festivals, and has performed at Bacchus Hill Winery for the last 4 years, as well as Festivals around Australia and Europe.
Pugsley's shows are exciting and entertaining and delivered with a vaudevillian nuance and humour.
Pugsley originates from Perth, Western Australia and has subsequently lived and performed in Melbourne, Sydney, Rome, Helsinki and Lisbon.
Pugsley initially learnt the stride style of piano playing from his grandmother (a musician on the local scene in the 1930's and 1940's) and later developed it studying with various teachess including Russell Holmes of the Western Australian Conservatorium of Music.
Pugsley is also a multi- instrumentalist- having performed in many bands, ensembles and orchestras in the nineties, as a bass player, guitarist, and on flute and brass.
Pugsley has also composed soundtracks for film and theare and directed and composed for the Gadzooks Music Factory Orchestra.
He will now perform once again at Bacchus Hill Winery on Sunday 27th February 2011 from 5.00 pm to 8.00 pm. Don 't miss out on a great evening.
